MMA Training in Durban

Over the next few weeks I will be attending different MMA training schools in and around the Durban area.

So if you're looking for a place to learn MMA, or you're thinking about attending another MMA class to maximise your skills check back soon for information, photos and my thoughts.

      Hi Michael, I think you would be fine going to either. Ask them each for a free training session to see which you prefer.

      I know that Domination have expert boxing trainers and have really good jui jitsu training, but I'm sure Shuriken will have similar quality training.

      Shuriken/GHB has a lot of guys training there, so you would benefit from training with a lot of different people, which can be a benefit.

      Whichever training you choose would be fine... good luck and have fun! :)

    MMA is great for fitness, and I can definitely recommend it... plus you get to learn some valuable self defense skills! I do need to mention that if you don't have a base level of fitness already it would be a good idea to get checked out by your doctor (my disclaimer :). I really don't think age is a factor either as we had guys in their late forties, and possibly early fifties training and keeping up with the young guys. We also had quite a few ladies who were much fitter than me.

      Hi Yoven, the thing about MMA is it won't necessarily make you look like a mens fitness model, but if you stick with the training and eat a healthy diet it can give you incredible conditioning and strength, along with good muscle tone (personally I think this is dependent on your genes).

      Hi Shauna, unfortunately i don't know any other place that does Taibo apart from Virgin. Maybe try calling some of the mma gyms on this page as they might have some classes. Good luck :)

      Don't worry about your level of experience, I'm sure the guys at whichever gym you choose will give you the necessary guidance. For me fitness levels are more important in the beginning, and once you have a good base level you will be able to focus on technique.

      Hi Dulan

      I would recommend signing up at the closest gym to you and getting in touch with a registered personal trainer and/or dietician to setup a resistance training and eating plan for the next 12 weeks.

      Another option is Crossfit (although way more intense), which you can search on Google for the nearest gym to you.

      As I'm not a doctor please consult a physician before undertaking any exercise/diet program.
